熒光增白劑研究、華東理工大學博士生導師沈永嘉教授說，熒光增白劑是一種光學調理劑。它的作用原理是將不可見的紫外光轉化成肉眼可見的藍光，與織物本身的黃光相疊加，發出白光，達到柔和、賞心悅目的增白效果，早已廣泛應用于紡織、造紙、洗滌劑、塑料等眾多領域。沈教授認為熒光增白劑是在衣服上涂了一層白色的東西來遮蓋污漬這種說法很可笑，因為熒光增白劑與水一樣，都是透明無色的，根本就無法遮蓋污漬。我們把它添加到洗衣液中是因為它有任何產品都無法替代的色彩調理功能。
